The Grapehound Wine Tour

UPDATES

We have some great changes for The Grapehound Wine Tour 2010, our fifth year of tasting wine and celebrating greyhounds in the Finger Lakes!

Winery Location
This year we will be at Silver Springs Winery, LLC, located just about five miles north of Watkins Glen on State Route 414, the main highway along the east shore of Seneca Lake.  There are dozens of wineries within 30 minutes of this central location.  By being at a winery we will never be far from the tasting room of a great winery location.  We will have registration, food vendors, rest rooms, vendor tents with dozens of national quality vendors, our ice cream social, a Blessing of the Hounds and our Friday evening concert all at Silver Springs Winery.

Vendor Tent
We are renting two large wedding tents for our vendors so that we can offer shaded "indoor" shopping throughout the weekend for our attendees.  We also want to have some tent space for resting and eating.

Hotel Rates
We are working with our hotel partners in Ithaca to secure a discounted rate for the weekdays so that folks and their greyhounds can come for most of the week and enjoy the many sights and attractions in the area in addition to the numerous Seneca Lake wineries working with us.  While there are some hotels in Watkins Glen which take greyhounds, their rules are a bit more restrictive and they sell out early.

Food
Food  -- or should we say delicious barbeque and other meat and vegetarian menu items -- will be offered at our host location, Silver Springs Winery, LLC, all day long on Friday and Saturday by Smokin' Bones restaurant of Burdett, NY.  The local folks love Smokin' Bones menu offerings and you will, too.

Music

For the first time appearing in New York -- Cindy McConnell of Reston, Virginia, will be playing her acoustic guitar on Friday evening under the stars at Silver Springs Winery, LLC, starting about 6PM.  Bring your blanket and your hounds, grab a glass of your favorite beverage, and listen to Cindy's musical stylings with your friends and your hounds.

Blessing

Returning from last year's Grapehounds event to again perform the Blessing of the Hounds is Pastor Diane Walker of Ovid Federated Church.  Last year Pastor Walker delivered a moving tribute to what our greyhounds mean to our lives and we are thrilled to welcome her back to Grapehounds 2010.

Walk to the Falls

Our Walk to Taughannock Falls will be about 1PM this year due to an event being held at Taughannock Falls State Park that morning.  Once again, Balance Photography will be there to take your portrait with your hound(s) in front of the Falls.

Kidders Landing Restaurant

Once again Kidders Landing Restaurant, formerly known as The Lighthouse, located at Kidders along the west shore of Cayuga Lake, will host a greyhound gathering on Saturday evening, July 31st.  You may bring your hound and eat on their deck or let your hound sleep off the weekend's activity and come with your friends.  (Our hounds are so pooped by that time, we let them sleep in the camper as we relax at the restaurant.)

If enough people register ahead of time, Kidders Landing will set up a tent for us on the grass down by the lakeshore and provide a spectacular lakeshore location for our Saturday evening dinner.  They do ask that you reserve your spot so they know if the tent needs to be ordered.  Make your reservation right away at 607-532-3446.

The New T-Shirts Are In!

You can now order your new 2010 Grapehounds T-shirt at a discounted price of $13 before the Grapehounds event and pick it up when you arrive.  This shirt will qualify you for a great prize if you wear it for our Secret Spy contest on Saturday in Dewey Beach, not to mention the shirt is just way too cool anyway!

Greyhound Angels of New Jersey benefits from the sale of every 2010 Grapehound Wine Tour shirt.  (The 2009 T-shirts are still being sold and also qualify you for the Secret Spy contest in Dewey.  These sales benefit Greyhound Friends NJ.)
